Banner and Badge for RABlog week

The banner and badge for RABlog week have been selected.  RABlog week kicks off on September 26 and will run for five days with two bonus days for those who wish to keep going.  The big news is we have our new 2016 badge and banner.  Both can be used on your website or anywhere you wish.

The banner for 2016 is:

The banner and badge are the first sign that we are getting close, but it is not the only sign.  In mid- August we will launch our second survey for the event; this one to select the prompts we will be using.

What is RABlog week?

The tradition of Blog week started in a knitting and crochet community Eskimimi makes. That community set aside a week each year to share patterns and techniques between those who subscribe.  A friend of mine, Karen Graffeo, is a member of that community, and she decided to try the idea in the diabetes community where it took off like a rocket.  Her site Bitter~Sweet hosted 128 bloggers this year all discussing the same prompts on the same day for five days.

As a participant of the DBlog community, it was natural that I thought about the RA community and if blog week might work here?  Last year I launched RABlog week, and the response was amazing.  We completed 182 blogs for the seven-day event with ten prompts.

The great thing about RABlog week is that it helps build community.  Our community may be smaller than the diabetes community, but we are certainly just as passionate about living in this club, that none of us wanted to join.  RABlog week gives us the chance to tell our collective story for one week each year.

Some differences in 2016:

RABlog week will be slightly different this year than last.  The official week will be Monday thru Friday.  The survey we took on this subject or using 5 or 7 days was almost evenly divided about whether to make it all seven days or shorten it to five, so we will keep Saturday and Sunday as optional days.

The week itself now has a  permanent date, commencing the last Monday of every September.  This year that is September 26.

Finally, I am hopeful we will pick up some different blogging formats.  This year in the diabetes and knitting communities participants used Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, and Tumbler along with the more traditional Google+, Blogger, WordPress and all the rest.

One thing the same:

One thing we will keep is that the last day of RABlog week (Friday) will be the topic of great blogs I have read.   Friday gives us a chance to look back over the previous four days and read some of our fellow bloggers content so that we may then give high fives in print to each other for participating in this week.  Great blogs I have read is a way for each of us to branch out and read some content we do not always see in our average day.

So with that it is almost time to rock the blog in 2016.  I know many of you will be rocking along with us this year.

  1. The graphics are great this year, Rick!!! So excited for your event!

    • Ahh thanks Karen, I hope folks in the RA community like them. I have a third one as well, that is a author badge, that will go to each person who participates. It was the suggestion of one of the participants, so we will see if it gets gets picked up after the event.
